How to Improve Lab Reports in English Using Virtual Writing Tutor

Introduction

Hello and welcome! My name is Christian Gonzalez, and I’m a student at Ahuntsic College in the – Biotechnologies program.

As science students, we all want to succeed not just in the lab, but also in how we communicate our results, especially in English.

English isn’t my first language, and I used to make lots of mistakes in my lab reports. But now, I’ve found a tool that really helps me write more clearly and professionally.

I’ve been studying biotechnology for 2 years, and I’ve written many lab reports for courses like microbiology, chemistry, and molecular biology.

In this video, I want to show you how to use a free online tool called the Virtual Writing Tutor to improve your lab reports in English.

In this video, I want to show you how to use a free online tool called the Virtual Writing Tutor to improve your lab reports in English.

Let me show you how it works—you might be surprised at how useful and simple it is!

The Problem

In college science programs like mine, we often need to write formal lab reports in English, even though many of us are French-speaking students

If the report has grammar mistakes or unclear explanations, it can be hard for teachers to understand our results—and that can affect our grades and credibility.

For example, in one of my microbiology reports, I used the wrong verb tense and some poor vocabulary. Even though my experiment was done correctly, my teacher said the report was confusing.

That’s when I realized I needed help. So today, I’ll show you a simple online tool that can check your grammar, improve your vocabulary, and help you write better lab reports in English.

The Quest

To find the website, just go to www.virtualwritingtutor.com. It’s a free grammar checker made especially for students learning English.

When you arrive on the homepage, In the middle of the screen, you’ll see a big white text box. That’s where you paste your writing.
Below that, In the top left corner there are several buttons—like "Improve Writing" “Check Grammar”, “Check Level”, “World Count”, and even a “Word Count”.

For lab reports, the Grammar Check is the most useful.

You can type or paste your paragraph, then just click “Check Grammar.” In a few seconds, it highlights your errors and gives suggestions to improve your writing.

The Solution

Now let me show you how the Virtual Writing Tutor works using a real example from a lab report.

I wrote a short paragraph about an enzyme activity experiment, but I made a few grammar and vocabulary mistakes on purpose, just to test the tool.

I’ll paste the paragraph into the text box, then I click “Check Grammar.”

Right away, the tool highlights several mistakes. For example, it tells me that I wrote “the experiment show”, but it should be “shows.” It also catches spelling errors like “oxigen” instead of “oxygen,” and “they’re” instead of “their.”

This tool even explains why the words are wrong, so I learn from my mistakes and avoid repeating them in the future.

It’s simple, fast, and super useful for students like us who want to write clearly and professionally in English.

The Conclusion

So today, I showed you how to use the Virtual Writing Tutor to improve your lab reports in English.
Writing clearly is important in science, and this tool helps you correct mistakes and sound more professional.

If you’re a student in science or any program that requires writing in English, I really recommend you try the Virtual Writing Tutor.
